Magnetic field of the earth

It is interesting to note that the magnetic field of the Earth is roughly
the shape of the magnetic field of a bar magnet, with its axis slightly
inclined to the axis of rotation of the Earth. Since the N end of a compass
needle points to geographic north, there must be a magnetic south pole in
this region. Similarly, there is a magnetic north pole at the geographic
south pole. The magnetic field strength near the surface of the Earth is
approximately 10 tesla.
