Transducers: light-dependent resistors, LDRs

A light-dependent resistor is essentially a device whose resistance
dependents on the light energy incident upon it. This property makes it
particularly useful for monitoring light levels, as an electronic circuit
need only convert specific voltage values to a numeric display. LDRs are
also used to indicate of the presence of a person or object. In this
application, the LDR is illuminated by a steady light source. If a person
enters a shop, for example, they may momentarily block the light from
reaching the LDR and the voltage change initiates some type of warning
signal.
