Physics - Charge in coulombs

Charge in coulombs

It is more convenient to count charge in large bundles called coulombs of
charge rather than count individual electrons. One coulomb [1]of negative
charge is equal to 6 x 10 electrons. One coulomb of positive charge is 6 x
10protons. Current [2]is defined as the rate of flow of charge, as counted
in coulombs per second passing a given measuring point. A current of one
amp means that one coulomb of charge passes the measuring point each
second.

Current is measured with an ammeter. Since it is literally counting
coulombs of charge as they flow, the ammeter must be placed 'in series' in
a circuit. Note that this expression is often presented in the form Q = I
t.
