Electronic systems: current, charge, voltage
Recall the concept of current electricity. This involves the flow of
loosely bound electrons from one atom to the next in a conductor. Electrons
flow from the negative terminal of a power supply through the circuit to
the positive terminal of the power supply. Since early physicists were
unaware whether electricity involved the flow of positive or negative
charge, a convention was adopted.
Conventional current  was defined as the flow of positive charge from
the positive terminal of a power supply through the circuit to the negative
terminal. Sticking with this convention does not largely affect the way we
deal with circuits. Although, the direction of the current and voltage
drops is reversed, the sizes of these quantities are unaffected.
