The Daniell cell

One of the earliest commercial cells was the Daniell cell used in
telegraph stations at the end of the 19th century.

The portable Daniell cell used in early telegraph stations.

One of the main disadvantages of the Daniell cell was the tendency for the
electrolyte to leak out as the Zn casing was oxidised.
