Isotopes and relative atomic mass

Following the discovery of the radioactivity of some elements, over 35
supposedly new radioactive elements were discovered within a few years.
However, there were simply not enough spaces for all these new elements on
the periodic table, which was still based on increasing atomic weight.

The solution of this problem was to lie in the existence of - different
atoms of the same element.
