Chemistry - The big picture - the origins of the elements

The big picture - the origins of the elements

the elements come from?

It is estimated that out of every 1000 atoms in the universe, are atoms
and are atoms. This means that all the other elements together make up just
two atoms out of every 1000.

Because hydrogen is by far the most abundant element in the universe and
the nuclei of all atoms contain protons, it seems reasonable to look to
hydrogen nuclei and the simplest element hydrogen as the starting point for
the production of other elements.

It is most likely that the universe was built up from simple particles,
rather than from the breakdown of larger particles. The sheer quantity of
hydrogen in the universe supports this theory.
