Chemistry - Reaction between ethanol and ethanoic acid to form the ester,
ethyl ethanoate
Reaction between ethanol and ethanoic acid to form the ester, ethyl
ethanoate
Alcohols and carboxylic acids react together, in the presence of an acid
catalyst, in condensation reactions to produce compounds known as esters.
Reaction occurs between the carboxyl, -COOH, and hydroxy, -OH groups, as
shown below for the reaction between ethanoic acid and ethanol.
This reaction is both a condensation reaction - because water is one of
the products, and an _esterification _reaction - because the ester
functional group is formed.
