Effect of changes in temperature on an equilibrium system

A useful way to deal with the effect of temperature changes at equilibrium
is to think of a temperature increase as the addition of energy to the
system and a temperature decrease as the removal of energy from the system.
Then according to Le Chatelier's, principle we can predict how an
equilibrium system will respond to such changes.

If energy is added to a system at equilibrium (i.e. the temperature is
increased), the system will move in such a way as to use up the added
energy, i.e. the position of equilibrium will shift in the direction of the
energy-using (endothermic) reaction.

If energy is removed from a system at equilibrium (i.e. the temperature is
decreased), the system will move to replace the lost energy, i.e. the
position of equilibrium will shift in the direction of the energy-releasing
(exothermic) reaction.
