Chemistry - Systematic naming and chloroalkanes
Systematic naming and chloroalkanes
The naming of chloroalkanes has to be a little more systematic when the
-Cl group is not on the last carbon atom in the chain.
_Systematic naming involves identifying the C atom to which the
functional group is attached,_ as well as the functional group.
The simple rule is to _number the chain of C atoms_ from one end of the
chain to the other - either left to right or right to left - so that _the
functional group appears on the lowest possible numbered carbon._
There are three possible simple chloropentanes.
