Chemistry - Worked example
Worked example
Two litres of approximately 0.1 M aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid is
prepared. The concentration is to be determined by reaction with an aqueous
solution of sodium carbonate prepared by dissolving 1.325 g of solid Na2CO3
in enough water to make up 250 mL of aqueous solution.
When 20.0 mL aliquots - volumes measured using a pipette - of the
Na2CO3(aq) are titrated - have acid added to them from the burette - an
average of 21.2 mL of the acid is required to reach the methyl orange
endpoint.
Determine the exact concentration of the hydrochloric acid.
Firstly, determine the_ c_(Na2CO3) - given that there is 1.325 g in 250 mL
of solution.
Now write the equation for the reaction - acid on a carbonate - and tag
it.
