Chemistry - Looking at reactions
Looking at reactions
One of the useful things about our new knowledge is that we can apply it
to some common reactions to help us understand them.
If we suspect hydrogen has been produced in a reaction (but only in small
quantities), one of the very common things scientists do is perform the
"pop test". This consists of placing a glowing match into a small test tube
or other container. If the gas is hydrogen, the flame will encourage the
hydrogen to react with the oxygen in the air and in doing so emits a clear"
pop" sound.
