Biology - Transpiration
Transpiration
Uptake of water, transport and transpiration
The rate of transpiration depends on:
* humidity of atmosphere - the drier the air, the higher the
transpiration, because the concentration of water vapour outside the leaf
is less than that inside, i.e. the gradient is steeper; while the more
humid the air, the lesser the gradient and the lesser the rate of
diffusion, and less water is lost
* stillness of the air - moving air will take water particles away from
the leaf, allowing more to be lost from the leaf
* temperature of the atmosphere - warm air can hold more water vapour
than cold air
* degree of closure of stomata [1]
