Biology - Life Cycles, Rhythms and the Environment

Life Cycles, Rhythms and the Environment

Patterns of activity, growth and development in plants (life cycles) are
often triggered by changes in the environment, referred to as "cues". These
can include light intensity and length of daylight, temperature, and
availability of water and oxygen. Daily cycles (circadian rhythms) and
seasonal activities and events may be geared to particular combinations of
factors to maximise particular stages of growth and development in suitable
conditions. For example, the chance of survival is increased if seed
germination takes place in times of adequate rainfall and suitable
temperature (spring), rather than in adverse conditions.
