Plant Hormones and Their Actions

Hormones are very effective in small quantities. They are organic
compounds that readily diffuse from the site of production to where cells
respond. Hormones are transported in conducting tissue, from one part of
the plant to more distant locations.

Knowledge of action of hormones has been put to commercial use:

* growth promoters, growth retardants, selective herbicides, fruit
ripeners or inhibitors, flower inducers

* nipping off buds and terminal shoots to promote bushiness in plants
