Biology - Antigen-Antibody Reaction

Antigen-Antibody Reaction

Action of antibodies: click on numbers to reveal various ways antibodies
work

For antibodies to be produced, an antigen must be recognised as foreign to
the immune system [1]. Antigens include micro-organisms, pollen grains,
toxins and foreign tissues, etc., and activate the production of
antibodies. Antibodies (usually protein immunoglobulins) are produced
according to the monoclonal selection model - each population (clone) of B
lymphocytes producing a specific antibody in response to a specific
antigen. Each antibody has at least two sites which bind to the antigen
molecule receptor sites.
