Factors Affecting Infection

Many factors combine to determine whether a pathogen will cause an
infection in its host. These include:

* the ability of the pathogen to survive outside the host

* the affinity and sensitivity of the host to the pathogen

* the host's defence mechanisms

* the dosage or amount of pathogen involved
