Biology - Pathogenic Organisms

Pathogenic Organisms

An infection [1] is the condition resulting from an infectious agent. A
contagion [2] is an infection transmitted by contact with an infected
organism. Though many infectious diseases can cause death; modern medical,
sanitary, hygiene, and pharmaceutical and pest control practices have
reduced the incidence and impact of many of them. Some diseases of humans
once thought to be largely eliminated - for example, tuberculosis (TB) -
are increasing. A disease produces characteristic signs and symptoms in the
host as a result of their metabolic activities, including the production of
toxins.

Not all micro-organisms cause disease. Many are benign. Some are benign in
one host but not in another.

antibiotics.

developing.

countries. It causes a serious, often fatal, blood disease.

pathogenic organisms.
