Negative Feedback
The response to a disturbance tends to restore stability or equilibrium by
reducing the disturbance.
An increase in the level of CO2 in the blood (the stimulus or disturbance)
will result in mechanisms operating to reduce the level of CO2. If there is
a decrease in CO2 level below requirements or tolerance limits, then
mechanisms will operate to raise CO2 levels.
An example of negative feedback: a faster breathing rate counters
increased blood carbon dioxide levels
