Biology - Failure of Homeostasis
Failure of Homeostasis
Many factors can cause homeostatic mechanisms to fail.
Factors which lead to failure of homeostasis include infection, trauma,
auto-immune diseases, inherited disorders, exposure to toxic substances,
and extreme conditions outside an organism's tolerance levels.
An animal's ability to detect and respond to change (sensitivity) is
critical for survival, and contributes to its success in:
* obtaining food
* avoiding predators
* finding mates
* avoiding extreme external conditions
