* production and evaporation of sweat to raise heat loss

* changes in blood flow; for example, vasoconstriction [1]of capillaries
close to body surface to lower heat loss

* vasodilation raises blood flow to surface which increases heat loss

* panting raises evaporation from respiratory surface uses body heat to
take place

* shivering raises temperature because of heat energy released as muscles
repeatedly contract

* erection of hairs increases depth of insulating layer

* hormone [2] release raises metabolic rate and therefore heat production

* controlled lowering of body temperature in hibernation

View the video of a panting dog: panting increases heat loss. In cold
conditions, hair erection retains heat.
