Biology - Sectioning

Sectioning

Before cells can be viewed under a light microscope thin slices (sections)
need to be cut. This allows the light reflected by the mirror to shine
through the specimen.

The angle that the slice is made through the cell will determine what the
section will look like when viewed under the microscope. When you are
trying to recognise a type of cell using a microscope, it is helpful to
know how your specimen has been sectioned and what effect this will have on
the shape of the specimen that you see under the microscope.
