    The text of this topic could perhaps have been better expressed. The *absolute diameter* of the field of view does not decrease; it is defined by a disc within the eyepiece which is always the same distance from the eye, so that it cannot change. What does reduce, as the magnification increases, is the *content* of that field, i.e. the range or span that can fit within it. Increasing the magnification has exactly the same effect as bringing things closer to the eye; they look larger, and therefore they need a wider range of vision to be seen in full - a range which is eventually wider than the available field of view allows.
