Effective teachers have great communication skills and this helps teachers to communicate effectively with students, motivate students to learn, and implement successful instructional planning within the classroom.
The course Diploma in Teaching Skills for Educators will help you further explore and understand the importance of these skills, and how they impact each individual in the classroom. The course begins by introducing you to the types of communication that occur in the classroom such as verbal versus non-verbal communication, and you will also learn how participation structures function in the classroom.
Next, the course teaches you about instructional planning. You will be introduced to US national and state learning standards and learn about the difference between curriculum frameworks and curriculum guides. In addition, you will learn how to formulate strong, measurable objectives, and how to motivate students using theories of motivation, attribution, interest, and self-efficacy.
This course will be of great interest to all educators and trainers who want to learn more about effective teaching skills and how to apply them in an educational setting.

After completing this course you will be able to:
- Identify the different functions which communication serves in the classroom.
- Effectively use verbal and non-verbal communication.
- Identify and describe the four main participation structures that guide communication in ways expected by the class, including their advantages and disadvantages.
- Use communication in the classroom to stimulate students’ thinking.
- Identify the differences between how a teacher uses communication and how a student uses communication.
- Select general learning goals for their students.
- Formulate specific educational objectives using cognitive or behavioral approaches.
- Explain the theories of behaviorism, self-efficacy and self-determination.
