The Aquatic life like fish, plants etc., get their energy i.e., food, oxygen etc., from air and sunlight. The wastes released from industries and the water washed into the lakes due to rain contain organic matter.Increase in the percentage of organic matter in the lakes results in adequate growth of weeds, algae etc; this lake is called Eutrophic lake. They decrease the percentage of oxygen in water and prevent the passage of sun light into water. This results in death and decay of fish and aquatic plants in the lake.As this decay process continues the lake becomes shallow due to sedimentation and ultimately dries up.This phenomenon is called Eutrophication.
