History of 5S Concept
Japanese are behind the development of 5S Approach towards housekeeping as a system. It was initially identified as one of the useful tool to manage another Japanese approach which is known as JIT - Just in Time manufacturing model.  Two models for implementation of 5S systems have been used, one was from Hiroyuki Hirano and the other was from Takashi Osada. 
 
Although the concept behind 5S is very old, it had not transformed into a housekeeping system back in early history, however, some sort of resembling concepts have been used in various industries: 
 
Venetian Arsenal

At a time when a single ship was produced in several months, Venetian Arsenal in Venice, Italy, used to produce a ship in one single day by the sixteenth century.
