  • The free online course Visual Basic - Working with Statements, Methods and Data Types introduces you to the functions and correct syntax for using statements, methods and different data types when programming.

The course begins by introducing you to the smaller syntax elements of Visual Basic such as operators and expressions, and how they function in Visual Basic. You will learn about arrays and how they are used in writing code. This course will also introduce you to methods which are an important feature used throughout all levels of Visual Basic.

You will then be introduced to more complex statements and how to use them in your code. You will learn about formatting strings for display and creating a menu system. In addition, Visual Basic can be used for applications that show the time and date; you will learn how to display the time and date in various formats for the end user.

This course is video-based which will allow you to see first-hand how to write the code for your application. You can pause and rewind the video allowing you to learn the content at your own pace. This course is a follow-up to the Alison course 'Introduction to Visual Basic' and is suitable for beginners of Visual Basic or those hoping to improve their programming skills.

  • Having completed this course you will be able to:
    - Explain the smaller syntax elements in Visual Basic.
    - Describe the difference between an operator and an operand.
    - Define what an iteration statement is.
    - Describe how to set a break point in your line of code.
    - Explain what arrays are.
    - Define and call simple methods.
    - Explain the different between the ‘do while’ and ‘while’ iteration statement.
    - Describe how to create a menu-ing system using the while loop.
    - Explain how to format strings for display using the replacement syntax.
    - Explain how to add and subtract values from dates.
    - Define how to display different parts of a date.
