Description

This course begins by giving you an introduction to programming with SCRATCH. Most people view computer programming as a tedious, specialized activity, accessible only to those with advanced technical training. And, indeed, traditional programming languages like Java and C++ are very difficult for most people to learn. With this course, you will learn how to create building-block programming and media manipulation as well as sharing and collaboration. You will study how to create interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art, and share these creations on the Web.

SCRATCH projects are made up of objects called sprites. With this course, you will learn how to change a sprite's looks by giving it different costumes such trains or butterflies. You will study how to draw an image in the Paint Editor, import an image from your hard disk, or drag in an image from a website. This course will also teach you how to give instructions to a sprite, telling it to move or play music or react to other sprites, and more!

The ultimate goal of SCRATCH is to develop a shared community and culture around it. With this course, you will acquire the ability to create complex projects, while enjoying the benefit of the support from SCRATCH. SCRATCH is an open-source but closed-development project from a small team of researchers at the MIT Media Lab. Check out this course and enhance your computer programming skills and easily teach the basics of computer programming now!
