The continuing spread of HIV/AIDS in reality will turn around some of the
improvements in child health that have been made recently.
The spread of AIDS and HIV is both a threat and a challenge to development
programs in developing countries. Research, which connects the state of
learning with field experiences, is quite important in developing
countries. In Tanzania, children are taught about AIDS and HIV through
drama.
It also is essential that traditional birth attendants receive education
and training in safe health practices, AIDS awareness, prevention and
control. If the message comes from the elderly, the community easily
accepts it. Local leaders are trained in HIV and AIDS prevention and are
encouraged to share this information with their communities.
