XSIQ * Chemistry - Collision theory. What are fruitful colisions? Collision theory. What are fruitful colisions? Chemical reactions require that particles collide. However not all collisions between particles lead to chemical reactions. Those collisions that do result in reactions are called fruitful collisions. Fruitful collisions are those in which: * The colliding particles have a combined kinetic energy at least equal to a minimum value known as the activation energy, Ea. The activation energy is the energy needed to break chemical bonds within the reactants. * The colliding particles collide with the correct orientation to bring reactive sites close together.
