XSIQ * Biology - Pedigree analysis Pedigree analysis Analysis of pedigrees is one of the first stages in genetic screening - a process in which individuals who have family members with a disorder seek assistance to determine the likelihood of them or any children suffering from the disorder. Genetic testing or diagnosis can follow initial screening. Clinical genetic counselling [1] services began in the 1960s and the _Victorian Clinical Genetics Service_ was established in Victoria in 1986. The Service also provides community education so people are aware of genetic and developmental disorders. Counselling facilitates the making of informed choices about issues relating to inherited genetic disorders. [2] The Victorian Genetics Service provides genetic counselling, diagnostic testing, carrier testing for certain conditions and pre-natal testing. The kind of inheritance pattern of a particular trait [3] or characteristic can often be worked out by analysing the pedigree chart.
