Pedigrees
Pedigree charts or diagrams are often used to study patterns of
inheritance in horses, greyhounds, 'pedigree' dogs and other animals where
it is important to know the family history for breeding purposes.
Humans have pedigrees too. Charts are constructed to show how
characteristics or traits [1] are passed from one generation to the next.
An individual with the particular trait being investigated, whether hair
colour or a genetic disorder, [2] is marked on the family tree. It is
important that you recognise the conventions used in a pedigree [3] diagram
or chart.
