Gradualism

Gradualism is a slow, steady change involving gradual genetic
differentiation of a species over time eventually leading to reproductive
isolation and speciation. The fossil record of the horse shows gradual
change over 40 million years. Trilobites (now extinct) showed gradual
change over 3 million years.
