Patterns of evolution
After the extinction of the dinosaurs about 65 million years ago, many
niches became vacant providing the opportunity for rapid adaptive radiation
of mammals.
This resource covers patterns of evolution including divergent,
convergent, parallel evolution. Let's begin with divergent evolution.
Divergent evolution results from adaptive radiation. [1] An ancestral type
can give rise to many different species which occupy different niches.
