Biology - Selection pressures
Selection pressures
Competition between members of the same species and others means those
with advantageous survival characteristics (adaptations) are more likely to
survive and pass on their genes to their offspring. Disease, predation,
climatic factors all exert pressure on the population and affect the
reproductive success of individuals. Certain characteristics are selected
for and others against depending on their 'fitness' or survival value.
