Point mutation
A point mutation is one that occurs in a sequence of bases. One base may
be deleted or another inserted. This will result in a frameshift - the
triplets will be interrupted and form new sequences of triplets or codons.
They will therefore be 'read' differently and may result in a different
amino acid [1]being formed. A 'stop' codon or other possibilities such as
a 'nonsense' codon could occur. Inversion and substitution of bases can
also change the DNA sequence.
