Biology - Polygenic inheritance
Polygenic inheritance
For many characteristics, a number of genes (and all of their possible
alleles) have an effect on a particular phenotype rather than just one
gene. This is polygenic inheritance and is responsible for continuous
variation [1] seen in some traits [2] - for example human height, where a
number of genes on different chromosomes contribute to a continuum or
gradual variation of phenotypes. Characteristics that have an either - or -
phenotype show discontinuous variation.
