Biology - Cultural evolution

Cultural evolution

Particular physical features developed in response to change in selection
pressures. [1] Some of these, and the development of the large brain,
enabled early humans to gradually manipulate their environment [2] and
direct the course of their own evolution.

More complex behaviours were learnt. Skills, beliefs, accumulated
knowledge and experience were passed on to successive generations, each
step paving the way for the next. This is cultural as opposed to genetic or
biological evolution. Aspects include:

* tool making;

* fire making;

* co-operative hunting;

* communication (speech);

* social groupings;

* construction of shelter;

* development of agriculture; artificial selection;

* development of settlements;

* development of cities;

* industrial revolution.
