Gene mapping - Results
Instead of the expected ratio of 1:1:1:1 of phenotypes [1] being observed
in the offspring, unexpected results were obtained. If it is assumed that
the genes for wing colour and size are actually on the same chromosome [2]
(rather than separate ones) but fairly widely separated, the first parent
P1 would mostly have GW or gw genotype. [3] Exchanging the ends of the
chromosomes during meiosis [4] (crossing over) [5] would give the
recombinant gametes [6] Gw and gW.
Gametes with the same combination of alleles [7] as the parent are called
parental. Those with new combinations of alleles are called recombinant.
