Properties of an isosceles trapezium

Lengthen the base of a square equally to the left and right in the
horizontal direction and it becomes an isosceles trapezium. [1] Think of
chopping the top off an isosceles triangle [2] along a line parallel to its
base. The part left behind is an isosceles trapezium.
