Benefits of Digital Technology
* Lesson 1 - THE DIGITAL EXPERIENCE 1.1 - BENEFITS OF
DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY [1] Benefits of Digital Technology

Digital technology has changed the way you manage your work, communicate
with others, and entertain yourself. For example, with the use of digital
technology, you can download music from the _Internet_ to your computer,
copy music on a recordable _compact disc_ (CD), and listen to music by
using a _CD player_. The table below describes the ways in which digital
technology has changed how you can perform the following activities. Scroll
down to read each description.

_

Storing and sharing pictures

An important area where people use digital technology is photography.
Digital photography_, unlike traditional photography, uses _digital
cameras_ that store pictures in a digital format. When these pictures are
transferred to a computer, you can use software to improve their
quality. You can share these pictures with your relatives and friends by
uploading them to a _Web site_ or by using _e-mail_ programs.

_

Recording and sharing videos

You can also use digital technology to record video. For example, you
can use a digital camcorder_ to record a video of family occasions and
parties in a digital format. You can transfer the recorded videos to a
computer and then share them with your friends by copying the videos to a
recordable CD or _digital versatile disc_ (DVD). You can then view these
videos by using a CD or a _DVD player_. You can also upload small video
clips to a Web site or send them to your friends or relatives by using
e-mail programs.A _digital video_ is easier to edit when compared with
traditional video. You edit a digital video by using _digital video editing
software_. For example, you can rearrange or remove scenes and add special
effects.

_

Communicating with business associates

Digital technology is also useful for business purposes. Now, you do not
have to travel to different places to attend business meetings and
conferences. You can connect your computer to the Internet and conduct or
attend live meetings and conferences from any location by using
videoconferencing_.For videoconferencing, you need a microphone, a video
camera, and an Internet or any other, private, _intranet_, global _wide
area network_ (WAN), connection to transmit audio and video. As a result,
you can see and listen to people who are participating in the
videoconference.
