06/02/2008 University of Northern Philippines Embraces Online ICT Training with ALISON
January 28th, 2008. Vigan City, Philippines.
An ICT training programme using ALISON begins at the University of Northern Philippines
Forty five first year college students at the University of Northern Philippines (UNP), College of Communications and Information Technology (CCIT) recently began studying ICT online with ALISON. The University, an eminent institution of higher learning in the Philippines, is located in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its well preserved architecture from its time as a Spanish trading town.
The course instructor Ms. Julie Beth Balite and the CCIT Dean Dr. Milagros R. Remular are hoping that the use of ALISON e-learning modules will allow instructors to spend more time assisting the students that have less experience with computers. Pending success in this test class, they would eventually like to roll out the programme to all 500 students that take a Basic Computer Concepts class each semester.
ALISON is particularly excited by this pilot project as technology-based learning is strongly supported in the Philippines by its government, in particular by the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), led by Secretary Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua. The Commission on Information and Communications Technology is the primary Government body promoting ICT. Its mission is to ensure that Filipinos reap the benefits of an e-enabled society and that everyone has access to the Internet.
ALISON is a leading training organization for the International Computer Driving Licence programme, which has been formally launched and introduced in the Philippines by the Philippine Computer Society Foundation (PCSF). ICDL is mapped to the Philippines’ National ICT Competency Standards (NICS) The PCSF President Bing van Tooren recently stated that “ICDL ensures better efficiency on the job as more and more employers recognize that an IT competent workforce is key to corporate growth and effective delivery of services.”
