London, 25th April, 2008.

According to a survey by the Federal Trade Commission in the United States, 27.3 million US citizens were victims of identity theft within the past five years. In the United Kingdom, fraud experts estimate 100,000 people fell victim to account hijacking, new-account fraud or other types of identity theft in 2007 alone. Identity theft is a crime where somebody deliberately impersonates an individual for personal gain, the most prominent and common example being that of credit card fraud. As more and more people shop online with their credit cards, the incidence of identity theft has exploded.

ALISON and Walkgrove Learning have now partnered to make basic education on identity theft and the subject areas covered by range of additional courses listed above freely accessible via the ALISON platform. Walkgrove Learning is a UK-based training organization and a former winner at the World of Learning Conference and Exhibition (WOLCE) for the Blended Solution of the Year.

Martin Galvin, Chief Academic Officer at ALISON is confident that the Walkgrove materials will work very well for ALISON’s existing learners, and indeed attract new corporate members to the ALISON community. According to Galvin, the course on identity theft is especially topical considering how widespread this problem has become: “Walkgrove’s courses meet a real demand from our learners for innovative and highly current educational offerings that will lead to safer workplaces and communities”, commented Galvin. ALISON has received particular interest on the identity theft course from organizations committed to introducing new learners to the Internet.

ALISON is delighted to welcome Walkgrove Learning as a new publisher on its free learning platform and invites other publishers with high-quality content to make contact so as to discuss the benefits to commercial developers of hosting on the ALISON platform.
