Food For Thought - New Free online 'Diet & Nutrition' course launched

The free online training and certification provider ALISON is delighted to launch another free course to the public -'Human Health: Diet & Nutrition'. This course comprehensively explores health, nutrition and a number of key human development issues.

This course is especially suitable for young people, athletes and adolescents whose nutrition requirements are high but who lack the dietary know-how to fuel their eager metabolisms.

Reports suggest that young people today are unaware of daily nutritional requirements. According to the "Nutrition Knowledge and Attitudes of College Athletes," fewer than one-third of the 190 student-athletes surveyed responded correctly when asked about recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables, and only 35 percent were aware of a link between low fruit and vegetable intake and health problems.

Katie DiPiazza, a nutritionist for the Wisconsin Badgers opines that young athletes are naïve when it comes to diet and nutrition. 'A lot of athletes are kind of clueless about how important nutrition actually is," she says. "They know they have to eat, but a lot of them lack the specific 'how, when, why and what' knowledge of nutrition and its effect on performance."

While few athletic teams or families can afford professional dietary advice, most can ill-afford to be without nutritional advice at critical stages of their lives. What individuals consume can have far-reaching consequences on academic and athletic performance.

ALISON's free training course on nutrition offers the opportunity to learn about the building blocks of human food, what health constitutes and the implications of dietary imbalances. This course is ideal for those who want to clear up confusion on often conflicting mainstream advice, for those who want to introduce themselves to the science of nutrition or for athletes who wish to improve their athletic performances.
