ALISON teams up with German Academic Organization NEA to assist highly-qualified personnel become more competitive in the global workplace

Munich, April 5th 2008.

ALISON and the German academic representative organization the NEA (Netzwerk Erwerbssuchender Akademiker) based in Munich have entered into a partnership agreement. The NEA represents highly-qualified self-employed German academics, many of whom are subcontractors, freelancers or in temporary employment situations.

According to Dr. Gregor Mayer of the NEA, “a significant and growing sector of the German workforce consists of highly-qualified academics that are not in full-time stable employment. Indeed, rapid market shifts have led to many of these professionals having outdated skills and without provisions being put in place for funding their training for employment in a new field. Discrimination in hiring against people over 50 years of age also prevents many academics from entering new employment easily.”

Dr. Mayer describes the work of his organization as “network building, personal coaching, support with job applications or freelancing opportunities, knowledge-sharing, discussion of relevant political themes and lobbying.” He continues: “The NEA partnership with ALISON will allow our members to collaborate to design for the global audience served by ALISON. This is the beginning of an exciting journey!”

ALISON CEO Mike Feerick says that NEA members will help build better visibility for ALISON in Germany, and will also work with us to translate some of our content into German: “It is a common misconception that powerful economies like Germany do not need to promote basic skills within its workforce. Many highly-qualified personnel can have very poor knowledge of desktop applications for example. All professionals should be able to touch type, otherwise over the course of a year; they will take days longer to complete basic tasks. We look forward to guiding and supporting the development of content by NEA members, as we believe that ALISON presents an exciting publishing opportunity for them”, added Feerick.
