AMAWELE – South African/Irish Charity develops school’s programme as ALISON PartnerEducation-orientated
social enterprise Amawele has joined forces with ALISON to provide valuable
online learning resources. This fresh initiative is set to benefit both Irish
and South African schools currently participating in the Amawele educational
exchange programme.
Twinned
schools, including Ireland’s
Alexandra College
and South Africa’s Manenberg High School, may now share many
online resources including recorded lessons and webinars. Central to this
programme is ALISON’s full e-learning suite of training and educational
courseware complete with learner management toolkit: ALISON Manager.
Commenting on the
new initiative, Billy O’Keeffe, CEO of Amawele stated “we
facilitate partnerships between schools in Ireland
and South Africa,
to promote cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries. Each
school is twinned with one other, and the students and teachers exchange
information to gain insight into the practical realities facing their
counterparts. Having a range of online courses made available to us via ALISON
allows our tutors to encourage active online learning, therefore allowing
students to grow their knowledge of IT, Business Skills and Language Skills in
addition to more practical skills including Touch Typing.”
“Promoting the
free online opportunities provided by ALISON assists us in developing
successful outcomes that will be shared by our participating schools. These
schools can also choose to generate local income from the programme by
rewarding accomplishments with Parchment certificates and branded merchandise”
continued O’Keeffe. With the additional feature of FLASH testing, learners can
be instantly quizzed on their skills at any time. This enables any Amawele school to become a local
educational centre, thus catering to persons of all ages.
Commenting on
the scheme’s success, ALISON Commercial Manager Kenneth Finn stated “Having
schools of the calibre of Alexandra College and Manenberg High
School involved in using our online content is of great importance
to ALISON. Schools can
identify themselves with this successful programme, and through our FLASH
testing, can become a focal point for delivering valuable training and
education.”
Finn
continued: ‘Through the ALISON learning platform we can assist people around
the world in educating themselves. Amawele’s work in
fostering close twinned alliances and their work with ALISON gives us a solid
belief that our mission will continue to succeed. We pledge to continue to
develop, publish and distribute quality online interactive courseware.”
