ALISON joins new industry group SALTIS
ALISON has joined the Suppliers Association for Learning Technology and Interoperability in Schools (SALTIS) in calling on the UK government to support work on better technical standards for interoperability.
SALTIS is being launched at BETT 2008 with 32 industry members and 9 non-commercial partners. It has been formed in response to concern in the industry at the current lack of technical interoperability for software in schools. The group has already started work to improve standards allowing the free movement of learning content, e-portfolios, and student records between different devices, applications and institutions.
SALTIS is a working group of the British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA) and is dedicated to improving the effectiveness of learning technology in schools.
SALTIS will seek to work with ALISON and other national and international standards bodies to ensure that their work offers maximum possible compatibility in global markets.
By joining SALTIS, ALISON hopes to be an integtral part of an exciting opportunity to create the technical infrastructure to support a dynamic market, which will deliver the applications which will transform our education system in the twenty-first century.
With SALTIS, the ALISON mission to enable anyone, anywhere, to educate themselves for free via interactive self-paced multimedia is shared.
