OneRoof, a US-based organization, provides citizens of rural communities in India and Mexico with access to nine essential services that, taken together, can help bring people out of poverty. ALISON is now a key partner in the delivery of ICT education to OneRoof clients. OneRoof builds upon the experience of its predecessor organization, World Corps, a U.S. non-profit founded in 1998. World Corps worked in rural communities of India, Mexico, Kenya, and the Philippines carrying out youth entrepreneurship training and developing Internet telecentres. The Clinton Global Initiative, which was launched by President Bill Clinton and the William J. Clinton Foundation in 2005, recently featured OneRoof in its newsletter.
ALISON will be accessed by OneRoof clients, and OneRoof franchisees will use the ALISON Manager service to coordinate their clients' learning and training both in their stores and in One Roof centres. To make this project work, the ALISON team developed innovative technical delivery solutions that ensure that OneRoof's rural clientèle have the same online learning experience that learners enjoy where broadband is ubiquitous. According to our Head of Internet Engineering and Support & Services at ALISON: “the solution is innovative and really works for the requirement. It is deeply fulfilling to be able to assist learners in India and Mexico to access our high-quality interactive content.“
ALISON and OneRoof have agreed to translate certain ALISON courses into Tamil for OneRoof clients in India, and into Spanish for clients of OneRoof in Mexico. The partnership according to Eric Spector of OneRoof: “represents an opportunity for ALISON and OneRoof to bring high-quality interactive e-learning content to some of the world's most deserving learners.” Mike Feerick, ALISON CEO, commented: “this partnership represents how a few well-intentioned people working together to harness the power of technology, can effect enormous positive change in the lives of people across the developing world.” Organizations with similar education needs or who have a mandate to promote regional or national education are invited to contact ALISON to discuss collaboration opportunities.
