ALISON Commended for Increasing the Life Chances of Disabled People A number of organizations working throughout the United Kingdom on empowering disabled people have commended ALISON for its innovative approach to education. One of these organizations, Breakthrough UK (http://www.breakthrough-uk.com), is a leading support and training agency for disabled people, and it has been using ALISON to train its clients throughout the nation. The organization works with disabled people to help them to play a full, economically active role in society. Breakthrough UK also works with employers to promote best practice and to work towards bringing an end to discriminatory policies which disadvantage disabled people.
Referring to the ECDL course on ALISON, Mike Kenny from Breakthrough UK commented: “My work as an IT Training Supervisor has been greatly assisted since I discovered ALISON. The online course is very easy to use and to understand, and will prepare anyone, regardless of previous IT experience, for the ECDL examinations.”
At the Edington and Shapwick School (http://www.edingtonshapwick.co.uk), a specialist school helping students with dyslexia, a parent suggested to the school administration that the audio-visual delivery and interactive method of learning on ALISON, “would keep the child's attention and assist with word recognition, maximising their learning experience.” The school now has over 120 pupils using ALISON and teachers there are using ALISON Manager to help support this learning experience.
ALISON is also working with The Royal National College for the Blind (http://www.rncb.ac.uk/index.html), the leading specialist college in Europe for people with visual impairment, to augment our online materials, and to make them even more accessible for visually impaired learners. Finally, ALISON is working with Sir Anthony Wigram, the Chairman of U Can Do I.T. (http://www.ucandoit.org.uk) to provide training in using the Internet, ICT, and ECDL for disabled people across the UK.
