The Coffee Shop, Burgh Heath in Surrey, England was recently given six laptops to be used by the community. In order to make full use of these laptops, a Silver Surfer Day was hosted. Two pilot test courses introducing older folk to the joys of computers were organised with excellent results. Amy Golding, the program organiser introduced the project to ALISON and as a result, many of the new program participants who are senior citizens in the local community are now studying basic IT skills including touch typing, internet usage and desktop applications.
Amy commented that “We have been delighted to recommend Alison to all delegates. This means that they can continue learning about computers in the comfort of their homes. A big thank you to all at Alison!”.
ALISON is very interested in supporting silver surfer programs worldwide. If you are involved in such a program or would like to start one, please contact the ALISON Outreach Team.
